How the classes work
The classes are an option you add to the camp. They run in the afternoon, 2 hours a day from Monday to Friday, in English, French or German, and there is no minimum number of children for a class to open.
- Classes of 5 to 6 children. There are no level groups: children of every level learn together, and the teacher follows each child individually.
- Speaking first. Lessons are built on conversation and practical exercises, so children use the language from the first day.
- Native-speaker teachers for each language.
- A certificate of participation at the end of the camp.
No level is needed: beginners are welcome.

The rest of the day, in English and French
The class lasts 2 hours; the practice lasts all week. The camps run in English and French, and children come from all over Switzerland and from more than 30 countries. Groups are mixed on purpose, so your child hikes, climbs and sits around the campfire with children who speak another language.
While the class is on, the other children do the optional afternoon activities. Your child keeps their morning programme, meals, free time and evenings with the rest of the camp. Want the languages without a class? See our international summer camp.

Questions parents ask
How much do the language classes cost?
They are a supplement to the camp price, from CHF 260 a week, with all the materials included. The current price is on dates and prices.
Does my child need a certain level?
No. There is no minimum level and beginners are welcome. Children of all levels are in the same small class of 5 to 6, and the teacher works with each child individually.
Which languages can my child learn?
English, French or German, every week of the summer. There is no minimum number of children for a class to open.
How many hours of class are there?
2 hours a day, Monday to Friday: 10 hours a week, in the afternoon.
Can a child really learn a language in one or two weeks?
A week won't make a child bilingual. But 10 hours of class in a group of 5 or 6, plus a whole week speaking English and French with children from more than 30 countries, gives speaking and confidence a real push. Many children stay two weeks or more: the activities change every week.
What does my child miss during the class?
The optional afternoon activities the other children do at that time. Your child keeps their morning programme, meals, free time and evenings with the rest of the camp.
Who are the teachers?
Native speakers of the language they teach. Lessons are built on conversation and practical exercises.
Does my child get a certificate?
Yes, a certificate of participation at the end of the camp.
Which camps offer language classes, and for what ages?
Our residential camps in Les Diablerets: the junior camps at Chalet Budokan (9 to 13) and the Senior Adventure Camp at Chalet Jolimont (13 to 17). The travel camps and the family camps don't include classes.
How do I book the classes?
When you book a camp that offers them, choose the language class option for each week you want. Book online.
